The CPC offers two tiers of pricing depending on your income. For the reduced pricing tier, you must meet our financial guidelines. We ask that you report your annual family income and your family size to determine if you qualify for the reduced pricing tier. Out of respect for our clients, and out of concern of creating barriers to service when documentation is challenging, we operate the clinic on an honor system.

Please see our income guidelines below to determine if you qualify for reduced-price services.

If you qualify for reduced price services, please enter your family size and estimated household income in the "Special Requests" box when booking an appointment online, or mention it when booking an appointment over the phone.

If your pet is experiencing a medical emergency, please contact your local emergency animal hospital. Due to the CPC’s limited hours, we cannot provide care for emergency situations. We are able to treat a number of medical concerns, but if your animal’s condition is very involved or requires advanced diagnostics, we may need to refer you to a partner veterinarian.

Emergencies that require urgent attention and should be seen ASAP at an emergency veterinary clinic:

• Severe trauma (hit by a car, big fall, dog fight, etc.)
• Trauma to the eye
• Broken bones
• Cat not eating for 36 hours
• Cat not urinating for 24 hours ("blocked cat")
• Potential ingestion of toxin or foreign object
• Collapse
• Unable to breathe
• Severe burns
• Active bleeding 
• Actively having a seizure
• Heat stroke
• Vomiting more than once an hour for more than 4 hours
• Vomiting blood
• Dark black tar-like stool or bloody diarrhea
• Constipation and straining to defecate for more than 12 hours
• Unconscious/unresponsive animal
• Pyometra or purulent discharge / foul odor from vulva
• Porcupine quills

Spay/Neuter Surgery:

+ Cats should be at least 3 months old and weigh at least 3 lbs for spay/neuter surgery. Please note that cats over 7 require a presurgical exam and bloodwork.

+ Dogs should be at least 3 months old for spay/neuter surgery. Please note that dogs over 6 require a presurgical exam and bloodwork.

Vaccines:

+ Rabies: Cats and dogs 3 months and older are eligible for rabies vaccines

+ Distemper: Cats and dogs 2 months and older are eligible for distemper vaccines

We reserve the right to refuse vaccination or surgery if an animal has severe health issues found on examination that make surgery or vaccination unsafe, if your animal’s behavior makes handling by staff dangerous, or if your dog’s weight exceeds 75 pounds.

Yes! The CPC offers TNR services for feral cats who are living outside with a dedicated caretaker. For more information, visit our Spay/Neuter Clinic page, and call our scheduling line at (802) 923-9028 to learn more and book an appointment. 

The CPC does not offer traditional grooming services, but we do offer nail trims for cats and dogs ($15-$20 at our Wellness Clinic), and lion cut shaves for cats ($75; call our scheduling line at (802) 923-9028 to book).

If you have multiple pets that need to be seen, please book an appointment for each individual pet to ensure we have enough time to address their needs. If you need assitance booking appointments back-to-back so you can bring multiple pets in at the same time, please call our scheduling line at (802) 923-9028 or email wellness@hsccvt.org.

Medications prescription preventatives are only available to purchase at a Wellness Clinic appointment, and cannot be dispensed in between appointments or on a walk-in basis. If you are an existing client needing medication or prescription preventatives (such as Heartgard or flea/tick preventative) outside of an appointment, please order through our online pharmacy.

Please allow up to 5 business days for online pharmacy order approval and fulfillment.

The CPC does not offer dental cleanings or extractions at this time. 

HSCC has an emergency grant for surgical procedures called the Rainy Day Fund, which offers financial assistance for Chittenden and Grand Isle County residents who are unable to pay for their pet's unanticipated emergency medical treatment* (not to exceed $1,500 per family per year, contingent on program funding and request for assistance).
