Nosework- Canine Nosework Information Session

Come and learn about this fun new game that is sweeping the dog world!  Canine nosework has become an international competitive dog sport, where dogs do timed searches of four different elements: containers (boxes, luggage, etc), interiors (any room), exteriors (the great outdoors), and vehicles (exterior only).  Any dog with a nose and at least 2 legs can play (incl. blind, deaf, and senior dogs!), and it requires minimal physical exertion from handlers. This sport builds confidence in fearful dogs, builds focus in distractable and reactive dogs, and gives energetic dogs a physical and mental outlet.  Best of all, it’s a fun new way to spend time with your best furry friend.  Dogs love it!

During this information session Holly Godfrey of Diamond in the Ruff Dog Training will present the basics of the sport and answer your questions.  You'll learn about the amazing dog nose, how odor travels and how to carefully observe and "read" your dog.  And, if you decide you'd like to try this fascinating sport yourself, Holly is offering intro classes in Nosework starting soon!

Class Details: An information session about canine nosework.
Fee: Free to the public!

Nosework- Introduction to Interiors and Containers

This intro course will teach the basic concepts of scent work, including how canine noses work, how odor moves, and how to read your dog.  Students will have an opportunity to provide their dogs with experience figuring out scent puzzles.  This class will focus mainly on the first two elements: containers and interiors.  If you have not attended the Canine Nosework Information Session, please read the information under that offering.

Due to the structure of the class--one dog searching at a time--dogs who are not working need to be comfortable crated in an adjoining room or waiting alone in their vehicle between their turns to search.  For this reason, wee can accommodate mild to moderately reactive dogs.
