Dog Classes

The Humane Society of Chittenden County is pleased to offer the following positive reinforcement-based Training Classes with professional dog trainer Whitney Doremus of Super Dogs of Vermont. Whatever stages of life you and your dog are in, there is a class to help you enjoy life together even more!

Super Puppy

$135.00
A six-week class designed for puppies under 5 months of age. In this class we teach you how to problem solve basic puppy challenges such as house training, crate training, chewing, mouthing, socialization, handling, and so on. And to be sure your puppy begins life with good manners we teach sit, down, stand, and pay particular attention to teaching a strong come command and attention commands. This class is filled with fun for the whole family, like dressing up in costumes and learning lots of games you can play with your puppy into adulthood. There is no time like puppyhood for training the newest member of your family!

Super Dog

A six-week class designed for dogs over 5 months with little or no training. This class is all about teaching good manners to your dog so that he or she can be an enjoyable member of your family. Right away we will teach sit, down, and stand and very quickly move to attention exercises, the come command, loose leash walking, stays, and leave-it. We will also discuss solutions for common challenges such as excessive barking, digging, and jumping up. You will graduate this class with a strong understanding of dog psychology to be sure you can carry on your training beyond the six weeks.

Super Duper Dog

A six-week advanced class for Super Dog graduates who want to learn and practice even more. In this class we raise the difficulty level on everything we learned in the Super Dog class. In addition we teach: Go-to-your-bed, down on recall, and off leash walking. This class is tailored to the group so additional commands and challenges will be addressed based on need.

You will leave having a clearer understanding of exactly why dogs do what they do and how you can best communicate with them to encourage the behaviors you want.
