Camp Paw Paw

The place for kids who are wild about animals.

Humane Education is at the core of our Mission at HSCC. According to the ASPCA, “At its most basic level, humane education is about learning to care for the animals in our homes and communities. It is about fostering kindness, respect and empathy for both human and nonhuman animals, and looking after the environment and its diverse habitats. Unlike science and other academic disciplines, humane education has a philosophical component that strives to establish a sense of responsibility and make the world a better, more humane place.”

HSCC held its first sessions of Camp Paw Paw in 2004. Since then the word has spread and the enrollment has grown, year after year. Over the years, Camp Paw Paw has become a hugely popular spring and summer activity for children in Chittenden County and beyond. If you have kids between the ages 7-12, who love animals and want to learn more about them, Camp Paw Paw will offer a unique, hands-on learning experience. Through Camp Paw Paw, your kids will learn about proper pet care, animal safety, and animal related careers, allowing them to become a Certified Pet Sitter and Animal Ambassador.

Camp Paw Paw 2012 will incorporate two curriculums geared toward two different age ranges: 7-9 and 10-12 year olds, with the exception of our Spring Session. The Mission of the Humane Society of Chittenden County is to foster compassionate treatment of animals and to prevent animal suffering. Each camp session will reflect this mission in furthering the campers understanding about homeless animals in the community. Sessions include hands on activities, demonstrations from animal professionals; including a Police dog and reptile rescues and so much more! Please check our website site at the beginning of the year for our 2012 Camp schedule.
