Canine Companions Available for Adoption

We try to keep our animal pages as current as possible, however, animals are adopted on a daily basis so availability changes frequently.  If you see an animal you are interested in, or want to check on other available animals, please call us or come in during our Adoption Center Hours!

Bella
5 Year old Boxer Mix

Spayed Female

SIZE/WEIGHT:  Large/65lbs
REASON HERE:  Not getting along with the other dogs in the home.
KIDS: 13+ (no history with children; Mildly guards her valuables)
DOGS:  NOT OK
CATS:  Not recommended
ENERGY LEVELLow - no intense physical activity
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:

SUMMARY:
 A social, goofy dog, Bella is an easy-going, food motivated girl looking for someone who is willing to address her skin and joint issues and also manage her interactions with other animals.  While she does not get along with other dogs, Bella has been very friendly with all the people she has encountered.  She loves car rides and belly rubs and would make a great addition to a mellow, dog savvy home!

 

 

Heartsfield
2.5 Year old Basset Hound

Neutered Male

SIZE/WEIGHT:  Medium/44lbs
REASON HERE:  Previous owners were not comfortable with his resource guarding.
KIDS: 13+ (guards valuables - food, treats, etc.)
DOGS:  OK (may be overwhelming for some dogs)
CATS:  Some (likes to play and may chase)
ENERGY LEVELHigh
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS: 
Resource guarder.  Adopters will receive a free behavioral consult regarding this issue prior to adoption.


SUMMARY:
 A fun-loving, tolerant dog seeking an active, high-energy home.  Exuberant, cuddly, and people-oriented, Heartsfield is a "life of the party" type of dog who thrives on human attention and the company of other young, bouncy dogs.  And don't let his short legs fool you; he'll make a great and enthusiastic companion on all of your outdoor adventures!  With a little bit of training and a lot of exercise, Heartsfield will make a wonderful new friend!

 

 

 

  

 

     Diamond in the Ruff

3 Year old Rottweiler

Neutered Male

SIZE/WEIGHT:  Extra Large/81 lbs (a bit thin)
REASON HERE:  Owner moved to housing that did not allow dogs.
KIDS: Adult only home recommended
DOGS:  OK - lived with another dog in previous home (no small dogs though)
CATS:  NO
ENERGY LEVELHigh
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:  Under-socialized


SUMMARY:
 Miles is a playful, affectionate dog in need of a great deal of gentle, positive exposure to the world.  Lacking in confidence, Miles can be very fearful of new people and situations and it will be very important for his adopters to be deeply committed to helping him become more comfortable and self-assured in dealing with new things and experiences.  Due to his behavioral needs, Miles' adopters must have significant dog and positive reinforcement training experience and will need to meet all the criteria of the Diamond in the Ruff Program.

 

 

Ruthie
2.5 Year old Hound Mix

Spayed Female

SIZE/WEIGHT:  Large/48lbs
REASON HERE:  I was a stray
KIDS: 12+
DOGS:  Great
CATS:  Not recommended (due to prey drive - chases wildlife)
ENERGY LEVELVery High
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:  High exercise/mental stimulation needs.  Adopters will receive a free behavioral consult.  For more information please call during our open hours at  802-862-0135.


SUMMARY:
 
Ruthie is a friendly, out-going girl who is always ready for an adventure!  Very energetic, her ideal home will be able to provide her with the companionship of at least one other dog and plenty of guidance and training.  Social and exuberant, she is always happy to meet new people, see new places, and spend time with her friends.  Upbeat and enthusiastic for all things fun, Ruthie will be a great companion for active people with lifestyles that ensure that she will not need to be left alone for long periods of time.

REASON HERE:  Owner did not have enough time to care for.
KIDS: 13+ (no history with children; Mouthy)

CATS:  Maybe (had exposure to cats in previous home)

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS: 


SUMMARY:
 A friendly, young and active little dog who loves attention but needs some guidance and training.  Still puppy-like in his behavior. Sammy will do best patient, dog-savvy people who can provide him with stability, consistency and clear boundaries.  With a little work on self-control and manners, this intelligent pup will make a great companion!

 

 

Zeke
3 Year Old Pit Bull Terrier
Neutered Male

SIZE/WEIGHT:  Large/55lbs
REASON HERE:  Stray
KIDS: 13+  (No history with children; Large and energetic)
DOGS:  Ok with some
CATS:  Not recommended (No history)
ENERGY LEVEL: Very High
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:  Anxiety when riding in the car.
Experience with positive reinforcement training required


SUMMARY:
 An out-going, energetic, and snuggly dog in search of a home with breed experience and a willingness to provide training and consistency.  Intelligent and eager to please, he will likely be quick to learn and is best suited to a dog experienced home with a commitment to positive reinforcement training.
