Camp Paw Paw
GOT KIDS? Do they love
animals?
Then this is the camp for YOU!
Humane Education
is at the core of our Mission at HSCC. According to the ASPCA,
“At its most basic level, humane education is about learning to care for the
animals in our homes and communities. It is about fostering kindness, respect
and empathy for both human and nonhuman animals, and looking after the
environment and its diverse habitats. Unlike science and other academic
disciplines, humane education has a philosophical component that strives to
establish a sense of responsibility and make the world a better, more humane
place.”
Toward this
goal HSCC held it’s first sessions of Camp Paw Paw in 2004.
Camp Paw Paw
has been such a big hit that we have expanded our camp each year! In 2008, we
will be offering nine sessions throughout the year as well as continuing a
Level Two camp curriculum for campers who have previously attended camp.
Camp is for kids 9 to 12 years old.
The
curriculum includes walking and learning to train dogs, being an Adoption
Ambassador for and socializing with HSCC’s shelter animals, interactive games
and assignments, crafts, and presentations by area experts such as a
veterinarian, dog trainer, pet groomer, and a police officer & K-9 partner.
Most of all, the campers will have
fun, and Camp Paw Paw offers an awesome opportunity for young people to
make lasting friendships with fellow animal lovers.
All campers will
receive a special camp t-shirt, and will leave camp with their “Pet
Sitter” certificate.
The
Camp fee is only $150 per child per session.
